Step aside political talk for a second and look at what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez objectively. She streamed the most popular video game on Twitch and was able to reach 400,000+ people with her message of remembering to vote. This has to be one of the smartest moves anyone in government has done in years. It also shows you how a majority of government officials and the older generation are completely oblivious to how the world works.
I sat and watched a couple of hours of the live stream. In the first 20 minutes with AOC not even on the screen, the live stream had 60,000 people watching. In the first 50 minutes, she had 300,000+ watching. It was officially the third largest stream ever on Twitch and it was only her first live stream.
Now one has to assume that not everyone was from the United States but that still doesn’t take away from the fact that the tactic of live-streaming is a sound plan if executed properly. This move also shows that a huge potion of political campaign still heavily relies on old and traditional marketing tactics.
While they still work I question that it will be only a matter of time before many of the tactics are absolute. Millennials and GenZ will start to become a larger voter group and they tend to get their content online than some flyer in the mail.
Either way, I believe this move could be a starting point in how politicians get the word out.
